Job Description

Position: Network Technician Senior

Location: Kwajalein Atoll

Job Summary:

Part of an integrated team responsible for providing Command, Control, Communications, Computer, and Information Management (C4IM) services to organizations and users serviced by the Network Enterprise Center (NEC) - Kwajalein Atoll. The Network team is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the IT backbone for the Installation Campus Area Network (ICAN) of the Pacific LandWarNet at the NEC-Kwajalein Atoll.

Responsibilities:(Not listed in order of importance; other duties may be assigned) and must be able to perform the following with minimal guidance:

Work as an integrated team that is responsible for the following:

  • Install and maintain network hardware: including wireless, wired, data systems, and voice over internet protocol (VoIP) 
  • Manages, operates, and supports secure and non-secure Virtual Private Network (VPN) access and gateways 
  • Implements and manages a wide range of network security systems: firewalls, Intrusion Prevention Systems, Vulnerability Management Systems, and Intrusion Detection Systems
  • Firewall administration: building, configuring, implementing, and monitoring network firewalls
  • Responds and evaluates network incidents and corrective measures
  • Monitor network status and Remedy ticket queues
  • Accurately document troubleshooting actions and customer communication in ticketing system
  • Complete tickets and documentation within timelines required by the Performance Work Statement (PWS) and IT Metrics 
  • Communicate unresolved issues or any significant changes on the network to team lead, and escalate tickets when necessary
  • Provide technical input for documenting workflows using Army template for Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (TTP)
  • Perform work using existing TTPs
  • Update network infrastructure documentation to reflect changes
  • Develop and cultivate excellent working relationships with local and enterprise work centers
  • Configure network infrastructure devices per current Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIG) and document in Security Check List
  • Contribute to projects that improve network services to the customer
  • Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 5-7+ years of experience in IT support role, with at least 3 of the most recent years supporting networking infrastructure, preferably at an Army Network Enterprise Center
  • Possess and maintain IAT II and required computing environment certification:
    • Current CCNA certification
    • Current Security +
  • Security clearance
  • Strong technical aptitude, ability to research, and solve complex issues independently. 
  • Significant experience working with Windows servers and network monitoring tools. 
  • Proven experience in network administration, routing and switching.
  • Experience administering VoIP services in a Cisco Unified Capabilities environment.
  • Experience configuring rules and monitoring and troubleshooting the network traffic traversing through the firewall is preferred.  

Security Clearance/Background

  • Position requires that candidate possess a security clearance in order to access classified information. Inability to maintain a security clearance will result in candidate being ineligible for this position.
  • U.S. Citizenship is typically required for a security clearance.

Physical Requirements

Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods of time.  Position may require typing and reading from a computer screen.  Must have sufficient mobility, including but not limited to bending, reaching, and kneeling to complete daily duties in a timely and efficient manner.  May include lifting weight up to thirty (30) pounds to waist height as necessary.  

Additional Qualifications:

  • Ability to relocate and reside at the U.S. Army Garrison – Kwajalein Atoll in the Republic of the Marshall Islands (USAG-KA)
  • Must possess a valid U.S. passport
  • Pre-employment health screening is required due to remote location and limited medical and dental capabilities on the island
  • Ability to ride a bicycle or walk at least 2 miles to/from work daily. There are no personally owned vehicles allowed on USAG-KA. Transportation is primarily by bicycle.
  • Ability to travel by plane or small sea going vessel between working locations.
  • May be required to work overtime. Rotational call back and emergency duty are requirements of this position.
