Job Requirements of Network Engineer L3:
Skills / Experience Required
Network Engineer L3 – Required Skills & Experience:
- Active Secret clearance
- 5–7 years of hands-on experience in network administration, including equipment maintenance, system upgrades, and infrastructure support
- Familiarity with NIST SP 800-37, 800-53, and 800-53A compliance standards
- Proficient in network design and configuration, including routing protocols and interface setup
- Demonstrated expertise in analyzing and optimizing network performance (availability, throughput, and latency)
- Strong knowledge of firewall configuration, secure connections, and network policy development
- Skilled in network monitoring, diagnostics, and issue escalation to vendors as needed
- Maintains robust network security through access controls, activity monitoring, and detailed documentation
- Provides end-user training and delivers ongoing technical support
- Coordinates end-to-end network upgrades and migrations in collaboration with vendors
- Stays current with emerging technologies through ongoing training, research, and certifications
- Committed to data confidentiality and organizational cybersecurity standards
- Strong understanding of information security protocols and best practices
- Experienced with Linux and Windows server environments, as well as network performance tools
- Solid grasp of TCP/IP, VLANs, Ethernet, DNS, BGP, OSPF, and 802.1Q technologies
- Background in routing, switching, and server infrastructure management
- Proficient in VPN configuration, firewall administration, and remote troubleshooting
- Capable of configuring server hardware, managing system backups, and executing recovery plans
- Experience with cloud environments (e.g., UNIX, Microsoft Azure) preferred
- Knowledge of security frameworks such as ISO, COBIT, and HIPAA/HITECH is a plus
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and demonstrated independence in task execution
Education / Certifications
Required Network Engineer L3 education / certifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or related discipline
- Possess and maintain an IT I level certification IAW AR 25-2
- Possess and maintain IAT II certification IAW DoD 8570.01-M
- Juniper, Cisco, CWNA or BCNE training
- CCNA, CCNP preferred

Security Clearance

Job Summary
Galapagos Federal Systems LLC is seeking a qualified and motivated individual for the level three Network Engineer position available in Austin, Texas. This role offers the opportunity to work with a talented team in support of a large government client across multiple locations. The Network Engineer is responsible for ensuring compliance with IT standards through scheduled deployments, patch management, and the configuration, maintenance, and monitoring of network routers, switches, and encryption devices within a Windows Active Directory environment.
The position focuses on securing and optimizing production systems, ensuring reliable WAN integration, and maintaining high network performance. Additional duties include troubleshooting outages, coordinating upgrades, collaborating with network architects, attending meetings, generating reports, and recommending system improvements.
Compensation Minimum: $85,000
Compensation Maximum: $95,000
